Manager of Diversity (Hybrid)


Ballard Spahr LLP seeks an experienced professional to expand, manage and oversee firmwide diversity and inclusion initiatives for professional staff. The Manager of Diversity reports to the Chief Diversity Officer and will provide strategic advice and counsel to administrative leadership on diversity‐related issues. The chosen candidate will interface with key constituents, internally and externally, to ensure the success of all diversity and inclusion efforts. The position is hybrid and can be located in any Ballard office. 


The manager will:

  • expand and execute the firm’s diversity and inclusion initiative focused on professional staff and integrated into a firm-wide initiative.
  • consult with, collaborate and create accountability with key internal stakeholders around developing and integrating diversity goals and strategies into all business processes and practices across administrative departments and offices;
  • oversee and manage staff diversity-related meetings, events and trainings;
  • lead staff diversity committee and business resource group communications, and ensure all activities and events are consistent with protocols and firm values;
  • design and drive the formation of staff business resource groups, including creating and managing mission statements, programming, budgetary structure, and membership outreach
  • keep abreast of industry diversity and inclusion trends and best practices; and
  • collaborate with the Human Resources (HR) department on diversity hiring and integration efforts for staff

The selected individual will have strong time management, problem solving, interpersonal skills, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks quickly.  Be detail-oriented, organized and process driven, with the desire to take ownership of projects and responsibilities.  Must have the ability to maintain absolute confidentiality and discretion of all department information.   


Qualified candidates will have a college degree and 5+ years direct experience with organizational diversity and inclusion efforts, including business resource groups.  Excellent oral and written communication skills to support firm communications by drafting content for, and updating, applicable promotional materials, including print and online communications. The ability to compile metrics and produce data reports and analyses in support of the firm’s overall diversity strategy is required.
