ZwillGen is a boutique law firm that represents some of the biggest names in technology on a range of Internet-related legal issues including cybersecurity, privacy, government surveillance, alternative data, and fantasy sports.  The firm also operates two subsidiaries each with their own independent tech stack.

The Gig:

We are seeking an IT Operations and Information Security Manager to oversee all aspects of our enterprise IT operations, vendor management and information security. The manager will guide the enterprise’s overall IT strategy, long-term project management, and vendor management as part of the IT Operations role. The manager will manage: (i) WAN/LAN infrastructure support staff, including all aspects of the firm’s helpdesk operations; (ii) numerous vendors providing support on security, backups, disaster recovery, network operations, firewall configuration, phones, and computers; and (iii) the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade, and support of IT systems, including virtualization infrastructure, cloud solutions, endpoint devices, operating systems, as well as office productivity and collaboration tools, telephones and printers. The Information Security role also holds responsibility for risk assessment, remediation, client audit responses, hardware and software training for employees configuration and management. The Manager supervises one FTE as a direct report.

This person should be a detail-oriented and organized individual who can project future needs, track and remediate vulnerabilities, use resources efficiently, and manage personnel. Being able to work with a wide variety of people and personalities is a must, including users with varied technical skills. The manager should be able to exhibit grace under fire and control stressful situations. This person should set reasonable and reliable expectations for their team and be a self-starter. Initiative is a must for this role. Confidentiality, integrity, responsiveness and good judgement are essential. This position presents a unique opportunity to bring technical and management skills together in a high-level role that works directly with firm shareholders and managing directors to shape the firm’s smooth operations and security posture.

Requirements:

  • A college degree and five or more years of experience in IT Operations and Security Management
  • Must be able to work out of ZwillGen’s Washington D.C. office
  • Outstanding communication skills including written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated team player who has had success participating in cross-functional teams that include vendors and users with various degrees of technical skills
  • Highly organized and good at managing people and projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Proficient with SIEM platforms and logging (Splunk experience a plus)
  • Proficient with next-generation firewall configuration and management (Palo Alto experience a plus)
  • Experience with Linux and Windows programming and commands
  • Experience with the following (or similar) services: Vmware, Veaam backup, Jamf (MacBook MDM), DUO, Crowdstrike Falcon, Nessus, Proofpoint, NetDocs, NetApp Storage, Dell PowerVault Storage, Ubiquity WAPs, Active Directory, Exchange 2013, MacOS 11.6, Windows 10 and 11.
  • Knowledge of phone systems (VOIP and digital – Avaya and Mitel knowledge a plus)
  • Comfort with a VM environment
  • Knowledge of Exchange, including ActiveSync, mobile access, MDM (Maas360 a plus)
  • Comfort with remote access (VPNs, RDP), remote user assistance, and telework configurations
  • Strong problem solving skills – if you don’t know something you’ll work to quickly figure it out

Essential Job Functions:

  • Project future needs and implement change management plans
  • High level management of vendor issues and coordination on projects
  • Communicate in technical language with vendors, but be able to translate that language for users without technical knowledge
  • Train new employees on IT and phone systems as well as best information security practices
  • Manage Splunk instance to include adding new data, updating, and license management
  • Manage multiple Palo Alto firewalls in multiple locations across the country with attention to uniformity and application of best security practices
  • Maintain and manage IT files, including inventory of hardware and software
  • Experience with legal billing software – ProLaw, iTimeKeep and EBillingHub in particular
  • Experience with Vmware, Veeam backup, NetDocs, NetApp Storage, Dell PowerVault Storage, Exchange 2013, MacOS 11.6, Windows 10 and 11

 

Bonus Points

  • Splunk experience – you’ll be managing a small license and will need to efficiently log systems as well as maintain the existing instance
  • Palo Alto firewall experience – configuration, management, and best practices
  • Experience working with Linux, ProofPoint, Jamf, Crowdstrike Falcon, Nessus, Proofpoint, Ubiquity WAPs
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity standards and familiarity in particular with SIG and SIGLite

 

In addition to ZwillGen’s IT Operations and InfoSec, this position also will work with ZwillGen’s subsidiaries, ZG Subpoena Solutions and ZG Gaming Solutions to improve their infrastructure.

Salary is commensurate with experience plus benefits.
