Benefits/HRIS Specialist

Van Ness Feldman, LLP, a mid-sized Georgetown law firm that specializes in energy, natural resources, environmental and transportation policy seeks a Benefits/HRIS Specialist to support the Firm’s benefits operations from the systems perspective and handle bi-weekly and monthly payroll. This role administers all benefits activities in ADP Workforce Now. This role works with the Director of Human Resources and Human Resources Manager to maintain accuracy of the data in ADP and with the benefits carriers. In collaboration with the HR team, this role consults with employees on benefits related matters as needed.


Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Administers all HR and benefits information in ADP Workforce Now.  Also, ensures accuracy of data with benefits carriers.  Updates benefit reconciliation spreadsheets.
  • Setup new work states in ADP and verify tax information is accurate.
  • Processes the bi-weekly and monthly payroll.  Review W-2 information.  Director of Human Resources is back-up for the payroll.
  • Reviews and enters 401(k) deferrals and loan information in ADP Workforce Now.
  • Reconciles benefits bills.
  • Works with Human Resources Manager during open enrollment. Ensures the accuracy of the Open Enrollment data.
  • Works with Human Resources Manager on the annual ACA filing and the distribution of 1095Cs.
  • Conducts new hire and benefits orientation with new employees. Utilizes the ADP onboarding system.
  • Point of contact for claim issues.
  • Coordinates wellness events with Human Resources Manager and Wellness Committee.
  • Completes employment verifications.
  • Complete workers’ compensation audit each year.
  • Updates benefits information on ADP Workforce Now and the Intranet.  Also, updates the summary of benefits.
  • Completes the EEO report annually.
  • Completes HRIS and payroll reports.
  • Assists with retirement plan audit.
  • Stay up to date on benefits and payroll laws.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and plays an active role in the successful operation of the Human Resources Department.


Candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or similar field, minimum of 5 years of human resources experience. The candidate must be proficient with spreadsheets (Excel) and payroll. ADP Workforce Now experience highly preferred. Service industry experience preferred.
